open call for guest artists for 2026

Sandstone is accepting applications from artists to exhibit their work as guests in the gallery in 2026.

“Guest Artists” are chosen based on the quality of professional presentation, evidence of skill in their medium, use of design principles, and how well they complement the work of the resident artists we represent. Please link to our menu title “Guest Artists 2025” and “Past Guest Artists” to view past exhibits and learn about those who have been accepted to exhibit.

Here are some answers to general questions:

  • The duration of each guest artist’s show is one month (we have extended the time frame to two months when guests are international, or coming from long distances in the USA);

  • There is no storage space available in the gallery to receive shipments or early delivery of the guest artist’s work. That means guest artists must hand deliver and install their work on the designated installment date, which falls on the Tuesday before the first Thursday of each month. Guests must arrange for someone to take their work down and remove it from the gallery at the same time on the following Tuesday that falls before the first Thursday of the next month after their show;

  • Each guest artist curates their own show in our beautiful Skylight Room, dedicated only to the guest artist, and located in the center of the gallery;

  • We ask that the guest artist be present for their “Opening Night”, which runs at the same time as Laguna Beach’s First Thursday Art Walk, from 6 PM - 9 PM;

  • There is a $1200 monthly fee to show in our gallery, plus the guest artist pays 20% commission to the gallery for each piece sold. Sandstone Gallery is operated by our resident artists. If you book for two months, the fee is $2000 for two months. All fees collected go directly toward our monthly rent, the commission goes toward upkeep and utilities;

  • We have considered and accepted applications for collaborative shows with up to two guest artists. In these cases, as well as the evidence shared above in the opening paragraph, we look at your intent for your show, and the harmony of the work. The monthly fee is the same for a collaborative show; and

  • Applications require a written email to Lynn Welker lynnwelkerart@gmail.com expressing your interest and preferred months (we book quickly, so choices for time may be limited). Please include your location, your website address, and links to any social media platforms you use to promote your artwork.
